Time for the world to go to shit again. Well, technically, in Twisted Metal, the world went to shit twenty years ago. Now it’s all walled cities and a landscape full of chaos—a landscape John Doe (Anthony Mackie) has to cross in order to deliver a mysterious package.
That’s pretty much all the plot you’re going to get in the official trailer for this video game adaptation, which arrives on Peacock next month. But at least Mackie looks like he’s having fun?
So does Neve Campbell, who sends Mackie on this potentially deadly errand. Stephanie Beatriz, on the other hand, is having no fun at all, but she does have a gun, which seems pretty useful in a world that’s also home to extra-super-corrupt cops (Thomas Haden Church) and killer clowns (voice by Will Arnett, body by Samoa Joe).
Here’s the synopsis:
Twisted Metal, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.
Screams! Bullet problems! An inexplicably bulletproof car! A great desire for two-ply toilet paper! This shitty future has everything!
Twisted Metal premieres on Peacock on July 27th.
